Over Brian Mulligan

“In the entire field of musculoskeletal medicine, there are no other practical manual therapy concepts taught that provide immediate painless results when needed. Furthermore, it only takes about 2 minutes or less to test when needed, and should be effective in 70% of patients with adequate handling skills.” This quote comes from Brian Mulligan, founder of the MULLIGAN™ concept.
Anyone who has met Brian Mulligan during a lecture or course will not soon forget the encounter. By combining more than 50 years of craftsmanship with a great sense of humor, he has put his working method on the map over the past 25 years. In 2007 he received the “International Service Award” from the WCPT President for outstanding achievements in the field of physiotherapy. Then in 2016 she received the prestigious Maitland Award from the Glasgow-based IFOMPT for his contribution to manual therapy.
Brian Mulligan lives in Wellington, New Zealand. He had his own practice there for a number of years and was also active in teaching the concept he had been developing for decades. Brian Mulligan is now 86 years old but still works for the MULLIGAN™ Concept Teachers Association.
Mulligan Concept courses are a breath of fresh air, with a special focus on practice and the skills learned can be applied directly. Currently working with painless and therefore safe techniques, the MULLIGAN™ concept quickly gained a lot of followers. Brian Mulligan’s techniques are also known as MWMS (Mobilizations With Movement), NAGS, SNAGS and PRPS. As a metaphor, one can think of a drawer in a cupboard that does not work smoothly. Here, finding a track is often a matter of fine-tuning the position of the drawer, after which opening and closing can take place without friction again. This can also happen with your joints. Your joints then no longer move as smoothly as before, for example due to missteps or lifting. Using the Mulligan method, the therapist slowly massages and fixes your joints back into place. This often leads to rapid and permanent recovery of joint function.

- arm
- enkel
- heup
- hand
- knie
- nek
- pols
- rug
- schouder
